Is everything we discuss confidential?
All sessions are private and confidential, with the exceptions that I assess you to be a danger to yourself or others, or if there’s any sign of child or elder abuse. Confidentiality is covered on the Informed Consent Agreement you will be asked to sign. It will be discussed during your first visit.

What Should I Expect When I Come to Clarity Counseling Services?
Therapy involves talking about very private things, and I recognize that making your decision to begin therapy is a sign of your courage and desire to grow and overcome life’s challenges. Therapy can be an important step to improving your life. An initial visit is an opportunity to tell me about what is going on. I will listen carefully and ask questions to be sure I understand. I will tell you about the therapy process. If you feel ready to continue working in therapy, we will work together to come up with a plan to help you feel better, including how often you will meet and what your goals are for therapy and for your life. People often feel better and more hopeful after their first appointment. There is no obligation to continue after the first visit. It is important for you to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. After all, you are the best expert on you!

How Often Will I Come? How Do I Know When I’m Done With Therapy?
If you opt to continue with your counseling process, I will work with you to come up with a personalized treatment plan. How often and how long you attend therapy can vary. If you hit a bump in the road, often just one or two appointments is enough to get you back on your path, feeling better. Or you may benefit from regular meetings. After 6-8 sessions, most clients feel better and see positive effects from counseling.
Therapy with me is collaboratively time-limited. This stems from my observation that longer term therapy tends to lose focus and unwittingly contribute to clients feeling that they are somehow broken.
So, you might work through one problem and be ready to take a break from therapy. If you find yourself struggling with something else, you can always come back for more support when you need it.
We will talk openly about if you think you’re making desired progress.
